Day 30 – Wed, July 2, 2008 - San Francisco - 0 km./0 mi. - Total 9891.5 km./6182.2 mi.

Highest temp noticed today 23C/73F.

Spent most of the day walking around and up and down San Francisco. We'll probably feel this tomorrow. Started by walking downhill from our motel to Ghiardelli Square where they used to make the world famous chocolate. Have moved production across the bay now but still have shops here selling chocolate. Walked through Fisherman's Wharf area and followed the bay almost all of the way to the Bay Bridge. Probably the only flat area to walk in San Fran.

Later in the afternoon went to visit Molly at work at Scuderia West which is a motorcycle and scooter shop specializing in European models. Molly suggested we go to North Beach for dinner so we rode a bus up to the vicinity and began walking some more. Walked through Chinatown on the way and after deciding we weren't yet ready to eat, walked up to the Coit Tower. Coit Tower is located on the top of 83m/275 foot Telegraph Hill. Have figured out that the sidewalks are: normal when they aren't too steep, by San Fran standards; steep when they have lines across the sidewalk to aid in traction; exceedingly steep when they have steps in the middle of the sidewalk, like the one we found on the way back to our room.

Had a very good dinner at Pinnochio's in North Beach and then headed up and downhill to our motel.
