Day 36 – Tue, July 8, 2008 - Mendocino, CA to Eureka, CA - 236.6 km/147.9 mi – Total 10695.1 km/6684.4 mi

Max Temp noticed today 39C/102F

Once again witnessed great change in temp as we moved inland. Paul told us you can get a 5F increase for every mile inland but sometimes we have felt more abrupt changes. Today was as high as 24C/75F on the coast and is as high as we've seen near the coast in northern CA.

Headed north up the Hwy 1 to 101. Hwy 1 was it's usual self with lots of tight curves and short distances, if any, between them in most places.

Left Hwy 101 when we got to the start of the Ave. of the Giants. This road takes you through areas where there are great displays of giant redwoods along most of the 50 km/31 mi route. Used the video camera mounted on the motorcycle to record some portions of the ride through this area and hope that the results will give an idea of the magnitude and beauty of these large trees.

After making a few short stops along the Ave of the Giants, we returned to Hwy 101 and continues on to Eureka, CA.

Had dinner at the Bless My Soul Cafe and were greeted by Sweet Mama Janisse as we entered the restaurant. Very good Southern, Creole, Cajun menu.
