Day 6 - Sun, June 8, 2008 - Springfield, IL KOA to St. Louis West KOA - 233.3 km/145.8 mi - Total 1851.8 km/1157.2 mi

Highest recorded temp today 35C/95F.

Had enough of the flat land in Illinois, even though there are great Route 66 historic sites, so I was happy to finally cross the Mississippi to Missouri and see some very green & rolling land in the foothills of the Ozarks.

Had a late start to the day so stopped at the Ariston Cafe in Litchfield, IL for lunch. When I told them where I was from they gave me a couple of postcards & a fridge magnet. The cafe has been operated by the Adams Family since 1924 so has serviced many Route 66 travellers.

Crossed the Mississippi by foot on the Chain of Rocks Bridge before I crossed it later by motorcycle. Passed by the Arch in St. Louis & saw that the water levels were very high on the Mississippi. Visited the Anheuser Busch brewery and took the tour before having a complimentary Rolling Rock Beer. Saw dalmations and clysdales but they couldn't confirm whether these were the ones used in the Superbowl ads.
